A Decorator's Nightmare

"I just threw up in my mouth a little..."

This is a story of a very unfortunate home improvement mishap. But first, I must rewind a tad. A couple months ago I ordered the wallpaper (or in fancy terms, "wall covering") of my dreams. A little dramatic, I know, but I was very pleased with myself to find a wallpaper and be 100% sure about it. So I ordered it...from Europe (cough cough) and waited a month or so to receive it in the mail. After attempting to hang it ourselves we decided to leave it to the pros. You see, come to find out, this type of wallpaper is the hardest most tedious kind to hang. And of course that would be my wpaper of choice. So the master wallpaper hanger guy came to our home and left us with a perfectly patterned wall.  Well worth it.

Note: bad picture quality. looks better in person.

Present day.  Let me start off by saying that Caleb is impressively handy around the house at which I am very grateful for. He's managed to learn on his own how to cut and hang crown molding. He's done a fabulous job on both the family room and dining room.  He hung the crown prior to the wallpaper being hung up, but still had to finish filling and painting the biggie. So, tonight, he's in the dining room working on the crown and I'm sitting on the couch enjoying a glass of raspberry lemonade when suddenly I hear, "uhh, baby... come here..." Sensing the timidness in his voice, I refuse to come look. "Oh no..." I say, not wanting to ask what happened, fearing the worst. Unfortunately, the worst had indeed taken place. While trying so carefully to spackle the end, like normal, he decided to tape (yes, tape) the edge so he wouldn't get any on the wallpaper. Before even looking at the damage, my heart drops and I'm pretty sure I threw up in my mouth a little. It honestly took me over an hour to will myself to get up and observe the damage....

Surprisingly, we're laughing about it now. I'm currently dealing with my grief in a healthy way... shocked, mad, angry, in denial, perturbed, sad, and now laughing.  For better for worse, for richer for poorer, through ruining wallpaper, in sickness and in health.... Needless to say, I'm still proud to call him my husband. And on a much much better note, he booked our Mexico vacation tonight (BEFORE the unfortunate event)! September can't come soon enough! In the meantime, we have a wall to fix...

  1. OH NO! It is a good thing he booked that vacation! lol Well on a good note, I love the wallpaper!

  2. This blog is awesome! Belly-laugh.
    He's a doof. :)
Just wait until he kicks over a full can of paint on your carpet.
