Amy's Dwelling

[I'm thrilled to introduce the very first Guest Post on EOS! And the start of a new series where other friends/bloggers  give us a peek inside their beautiful dwellings along with answering a few of my questions. Today, I welcome the sweet Amy from New Zealand! Enjoy + make Amy's day by leaving a comment at the end of this post!  xo Christie]

Hi! I'm Amy from Five Kinds of Happy and I'm stoked to be here today sharing my home tour on Christie's blog! I have to say when I found Eyes on Sparrow I was kinda smitten... I feel like we are going to be great friends - I love Christie's style!

Welcome to "The Nest" - the little old 1940's townhouse we have called home for the last 5 months since our wedding.

Let's get started!

The living room
The living room is the first room we tackled in this little house - it was horrible and grungy when we moved in, and sooo much nicer now with the white fireplace (we painted) and white curtains and rug.

The front door opens into the living room - this old chair is waiting to be reupholstered (one day)!

The bedroom
I fell for the yellow pillow fabric hard, so we ordered some over from the States and sewed pillows. Woop!

I love these sheepskin boots - they save my life.

The bathroom
The old basin had to stay, but I think the vintage style really works with it.

How would you describe your design style?
Definitely eclectic - I love colours and seeing them combined to create something interesting, and having a clean light background with touches of warm wood. Also a little outside-the-box and artsy.

Where or whom do you get your design inspiration from?
Everywhere.
Before Pinterest, I got a lot of inspiration from magazines and my own imagination... I'm trying to get back to those roots and really grow my own creativity (not just copy interior trends on Pinterest!).

I'm inspired by Swedish design and lived there for 6 months as a student - I loved the interiors there.
{tearout from a Swedish catalogue - love the couches}

What are your favorite colors to decorate with?
I have to say I'm getting pretty into pink and yellow at the moment! Combined with white+wood of course :)

What do you love most about your home?
Honestly, just that I get to share it with this guy and it's all ours.

Also.... the old 1940's charm is growing on me. I'm loving the personality of an older house and I'm not sure I ever really want to have a new modern style house now...!

Favorite room and why?
I'd have to say the living room - it's so light in there and when I walk in I just feel happy.

Where do you like to shop for your home?
I live in New Zealand and we really don't have much of anything compared to the States or somewhere like that. I dream of having West Elm, Anthropologie, Urban outfitters or even Ikea at my fingertips! There is nothing like that here. I try to order items online from overseas, or else make them myself.

Favorite DIY creation in your home?
I think it's these pillows - my mum sewed the big yellow ones from Robert Allen Vintage Blossom fabric, and I sewed the pink one from Chinese satin.

Thanks for having me today Christie!
And thanks for reading, everyone!
